GAME Game 246/Day 313, Nick's truth-finding game
FORM a bag of nettle tea, brew and drink to view, shareable only if original tea is drunk, 9/10 uses left
TAKEN offscreen, at some point (he inventoried the tea, sure)
THE MEMORY
The memory starts with Jay eavesdropping at Will's door as he talks with the captain of the Gadorian knights, more or less about trying to make a bid for the Legacy and Shirley under the pretense of "victor's rights." He's found by Senel and Harriet, who attempt to give him a medal, a-and there is forceful tiny girl topping.
Chloe, Norma, and Moses come in, and Jay and Moses snark at each other a bit. The Gadorian captain walks out on them, and is basically sort of a condescending, sexist dick:
Captain of the Gadorian Knights: I thought it was you. Your accomplishments in this matter were splendid.
Chloe: Thank you, sir.
Captain of the Gadorian Knights: When your father was killed by bandits five years ago, I thought the Valens name had become worthless.
Senel: Hey! How can you talk like that?!
Chloe: It's all right, Coolidge.
Captain of the Gadorian Knights: You've done an impressive job of cleaning up your tarnished reputation. Not bad, for a woman.
Norma: Now hold on a second!
Chloe: Norma, I'm fine.
Captain of the Gadorian Knights: Continue to serve your country with this same degree of loyalty. In so doing, perhaps someday His Majesty will show you lenience.
Chloe: Yes, sir.
Then he leaves, and there's a bit of party exposition about the fact that everyone is seeking the weapon-power of the Legacy and Shirley, during which it is mentioned that Shirley and Senel are having a bit of a strained, awkward period right now. (He'll already know that Shirley left for the Ferines village, and Senel didn't seem to protest.) Senel hasn't been to see her! Will offers to take Senel with him when he delivers a message from Musette to Maurits.
This is when Fenimore walks in (having come with Chloe, Norma, and Moses) and begs Senel to come see Shirley, talking a little about how lonely Shirley is, now and in general, as a consequence of her isolated childhood. Senel agrees to go, and everyone else tags along--they seriously have nothing better to do!
Over at the Ferines village, Walter is hostile at them and Maurits is outwardly conciliatory, but also clearly frustrated, and he mentions that people have come there trying to get at Shirley. There's also:
Jay: As I recall, Shirley said that she lacks the powers of the Merines.
Maurits: What she lacks in power, she makes up for in dignity. She has a fierce determination to help fulfill the expectations of the Ferines. Stella's death may have opened Shirley's eyes to who she really is. I believe Shirley saw the true essence of the Merines in the noble spirit of sacrifice Stella displayed when she gave her life to protect everyone. In fact, Stella may be the happiest of all about Shirley's growth. I have prepared a room for all of you. Please rest yourselves while I prepare my response.
Someone takes them to guest quarters, and Fenimore has a note that Senel should come meet her, which they speculate is probably her bringing Shirley.
WHAT HE LEARNED
Mostly this is some context as to Chloe's issues as well as the background that might have led them to be at odds with the Ferines in later memories; he had some of it already, but this is more. Some of the inklings as to what Shirley was like in her earlier days (mostly the avoidance) will throw him, as he's still accustomed to thinking about her as the girl who slapped Chloe and set him on the right path.
He'll also note Senel/Shirley awkwardness and the "noble spirit of sacrifice" stuff will twig him, but it's not surprising in context of later memories, hmm.
EFFECTS
Not much--this is mostly informational--but he'll be puzzling over some of the stuff I mentioned for a while.
