THE MEMORY
So this memory starts with Jay, having just spent the whole night holed up in his room scared and sad and despairing, heading to Werites Beacon in the morning, with the intention of tricking the rest of the party to the Ruins of Frozen Light and delivering Shirley into Solon's hands there. He hates it a lot and is perfectly miserable--this is basically him blowing his entire life for the past six years into smithereens, as well as rank betrayal of a bunch of people he has come to care about very much--but also, for reasons that will not be gleaned from this memory, feels he has no other choice.
He gathers everyone at Will's house, and, well--
Senel: Jay, are you feeling better?
Jay: What are you talking about?
Moses: Hate to say it, but we heard about Solon.
Norma: The Scallop Brothers told us.
Jay: Honestly, they just can't keep their mouths shut. There's no need to worry. I'm not Moses. I won't lose sight of myself.
Moses: That's real convincin', comin' from someone who was holed up in his room all scared.
Jay: I wasn't scared. I was just a little surprised.
Moses: Yeah, okay. Sure. Whatever you say.
Jay: I'm going to ignore Moses' babbling and start the meeting. I want us to go eliminate Solon.
I excerpt this bit because it's pretty much what's going for the entire duration of this memory--people express concern for Jay, he brushes them off and pretends he isn't upset and terrified, Moses taunts him and baits him, it doesn't work, rinse and repeat. THE UPSHOT OF THIS IS THAT HE IS EVEN MORE MISERABLE since he is denying being scared even to himself and ow :[
Anyway, Jay manages to convince the rest of the party that they (including Shirley, whom they know Solon is after) to come to the Ruins of Frozen Light to eliminate Solon, by which I mean "he tells them and they just kind of agree to it." He leads them there, acting stiff and forced and out of it the entire time, which leads people to ask about him, which leads to the whole cycle of terrible I outlined up there. After a bit of dungeoncrawling, he motions Shirley over under the pretext of getting her to read some Relares and . . . knocks her out, activating a cage trap right over where the rest of the party is standing at the same time.
This is when Solon appears.
Solon: Splendid work, Jay. I should have expected no less from my dear apprentice.
Moses: Jay! What do you think you're doing?! Quit playin' around!
Solon: Does this look like he's playing to you? Look at the situation you're in. What else could it be besides pure betrayal? Are you stupid? Well, are you?!
Moses: That's enough! You and me, right now!
Solon: It's the perfect cage for a wild beast, don't you think? Maybe I'll put up a booth and charge admission! I love it! I absolutely love it! Ah hah hah hah hah hah!
Norma: JJ, this can't be true, right?! Answer me, you little brat!
Solon: Beautiful! The look of disbelief on your faces is absolutely perfect! It's a work of art. I can barely contain myself! This is life's true joy!
Senel: Jay! Stop! Tell us what's going on!
Solon: I think it's time we put an end to your chirping. Your naive cries are beginning to get on my nerves.
Jay is silent during all this. Solon drops a monster into the cage with them, and he and Jay and Shirl poof out.
WHAT HE LEARNED
+ well uh
+ okay obviously people were still after Shirley for power
+ also confirmation that he used to work for Solon and, by extension, that he was a ninja
+ which he already heavily suspected but . . . haha . . . .
EFFECTS
:'D
NO UM I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO ONSCREEN THIS because wowww
the list of people Swift would take memories in front of is pretty short at this point though
