THE MEMORY

This is a long one! 1 (from 1:01) 2 3 (until 8:30) 4 (5:23 through end)--excepting the internal Norma stuff and backstory, naturally.

Memory begins at the fountain plaza, where Norma is arguing with an old dude called Zamaran! Stuff like this gets said:

Zamaran: Don't you think it's about time you gave up on that foolish dream?
Norma: Foolish dream? What are you calling foolish?!
Zamaran: If you have yet to know despair, then I suppose it cannot be helped. But you, too, will learn soon enough. Just like that fool, Sven.
Norma: You take that back! No one talks about him like that! If there's one thing I won't allow, it's anyone saying anything bad about my teacher!
Zamaran: The real world is not the fairy tale you seem to think it is. Open your eyes before it's too late. Don't throw your life away like Sven did.

Gosh, how tantalizing and inconclusive. Anyway, Zamaran fucks off after a bit, and Norma presses the party into helping her look for the Everlight in the Man-Eating Ruins, which the party . . . accedes to with not a lot of arguing! Along the way we learn that this Everlight is a legendary crystal that grants wishes!! and also that most experts assume it doesn't exist.

Everyone goes dungeon crawling anyway. Norma keeps setting off traps. Moses keeps getting caught in them. Jay does not mind this state of affairs at all :'D This culminates in her launching a miniboss monster on them, and then it . . . turns out the Everlight wasn't here anyway, which UNDERSTANDABLY cheeses everyone else off some. Norma sort of laughs the whole thing off and tells them they'll try harder next time!! because naturally they're going to keep doing this until she finds the Everlight, right? and generally lols her way through the whole situation like she just don't care. Let's go back to town, guys, I'm starving!

Theeeeen Zamaran shows up again.

ZAMARAN: My, my. For all your enthusiasm as you set out it seems you have come up with nothing.
NORMA: Hey, be quiet! Today was just preliminary research!
ZAMARAN: Just be careful you don't wind up spending your whole life doing "preliminary research."
NORMA: Man...could you just shut up? We're only just getting started!
NORMA: Go away, old man! Shoo! Shoo!
ZAMARAN: My pleasure. I wouldn't want anyone to think I like talking to monkeys, anyway.

Norma has a moment of being :( (she's still facing away from the party) but she recovers as soon as someone asks her about it. "...You know, I think I'm going to pass on the food. Today was a long day. I'm going to bed." Shirley remarks that she seems a little down, still.

Next morning Norma is back to her pushy self, trying to drag the party along to yet another dungeon, and shrugs off Jay's request for you know, actual evidence. Then Senel asks her why she cares so much anyway, and she launches into this big speech which I'll just c&p in full:

Master was, to put it simply, the world's biggest idiot.

He was an idiot, but he was fun to be around. I'm really grateful to him, too, More so than I can ever say. I was a bit of a troublemaker when I was a kid. I probably wanted my parents to stop fighting and pay attention to me. So I rebelled as much as a child could, you know? I ran away from home a lot.

Back then, I thought the whole world was my enemy. I came to distrust adults and society and all sorts of things. It was around that time that I met master. I did a lot of crazy things, but master was even worse. When he learned I could use crystal eres, he immediately enrolled me in a high-level academy! It was no place a commoner like me would've normally been able to attend. Even though he didn't make much money, he paid for all my school expenses...

So anyway, this stupid master of mine was searching for the Everlight.

And then she is like "haha just kidding I made all of that up :'D" People (not Jay) proceed to get mad, to which Norma is like :) let's go to the Ice Monument, guys! Which Senel accedes to, to everyone's surprise. Norma runs off ahead with her usual energy, and--

Chloe: Do you think she really made that up?
Senel: Well, we learned that this Sven person was important to her. I think that's enough.

The memory ends just as they head off.
