Nah, it's probably old news. I'll see you on the playground.
[On the way over, Dirk thinks about how much he misses flying and flashstepping. Fuck you, low frequency world. He keeps the bone safe in his pocket, and when he spots Jay, he hails him with a wave.]
Yeah, it stays active. [He takes it out of his pocket to show a brief demonstration of the power in it, before tucking it away. Look, it may or may not be contraband? Gotta be careful.] Indicating different classes of magic, one of which Qri needs, and probably the same kind that lets us use the powers she gave us everywhere.
[Also he's just going to hop onto the merry-go-round and let it spin. He never got to play in active playgrounds before. They were all sunken and rusted. It's kind of fun to see one actually work.]
I do wonder what it is that allows this magic to--what was the term Genette used?--"permeate existence." Assuming the frequency theory of magic is even the truth.
[He frowns--but his mouth quirks up when he sees Dirk on the merry-go-round.]
[Yes, yes, he spins the merry-go-round. Have fun recreating a normal childhood, Dirk.]
I wonder if the difference isn't that the magic is imbued in an inert object, rather than being invested in a person. Or perhaps our powers ultimately derive from our own worlds, and this is just a matter of proximity.
The non-murderous Uvi talked about how Elto magic was somehow different from the kind of magic humans used. That might be relevant.
[Chilling as he gets spun around, because he is now A Normal Child.]
Jake speculated that there might be a difference between magic that uses energy and magic that creates energy. In that frame, the bones could be a source while whatever magic we have from our worlds could be a use-of thing.
Yes, that's certainly something I'd like to know too. Honestly, I'd just like to see if we can get her to talk to us. She may not tell the truth, but then at least we'd have some idea of what she's like.
[He agrees absolutely, the slightest inclination suggesting a nod.]
We do not have the information to make a decision. In some ways, that might be deciding against her, but mostly I'm frustrated from the lack of information. I'm willing to work with her if I know more about what she's doing and who she is.
[And he is willing to Get as Gud as he must. They have a job (apparently) and contacting her is part of it. So he'll take it in hand, and others won't have to.]
