GAME Game 132/Day 170, Mother Goose's pie-sharing game
FORM a blackbird-shaped whistle baked into a pie, 3/4 uses left
TAKEN offscreen, Day . . . 172ish??
THE MEMORY
It's a picnic at Lumen Spring! Everyone (party, Will's daughter Harriet, the otters) is goofing off and bantering and being terrified by Harriet's terrible cooking:
Harriet: All right, enough serious talk. Here, Dad, eat this.
Jay: I'm impressed you can eat that. It's worse than poison.
Harriet: Jay!
Jay: J...just kidding.
Moses decides to tease him a little!
Moses: Jay, you better eat up quick before it's all gone. You really don't want to miss out! Come on Jay, open up and say, "ahhh."
Jay: Wh...what the hell are you doing?!
Moses: Takin' care of my family!
Jay: Don't be creepy like that.
Moses: What was that, Jay? I didn't hear you...
Quppo: You're looking lively, Jay!
Pippo: Isn't it fun to be together with everyone?
Poppo: It makes us so happy to see you being so cheerful.
Grune: I bet we can thank Senel and the others for that.
Moses: Now that you mention it, he has gotten a lot more human than he was in the old days...
Jay: The old days...
TALES OF LEGENDIA: MASTERPIECE IN SUBTLETY. The game goes into a flashback scene here, but that's a different memory, so I'm ruling he just sort of spaces out and gets :[ly. Moses rouses him with TERRIBLE COOKING, and then Norma reminds them all that it's the Star Festival! Gosh.
The Star Festival is an old tradition in which people write down their wishes and send them down the river! There's some speculation that it might have to do with Nerifes, the sea god. Either way, it's a ~fun~ activity for them to do together . . . that Jay excuses himself from. :x He's just kind of--discomfited by the reminder of his past (I think it was probably the "human" as much as the "old days") and by the idea of letting other people see his fondest wish and just. awkward. It's easier to escape! So he sort of goes over to the sidelines with the otters and write on his leaf . . . he doesn't send it off, either.
We don't see what his wish was, but later reveals tell us that it's "I want a family."
Jay: My wish...
Quppo: It's better to be together with everyone.
Poppo: It's more fun that way.
Pippo: They're all nice people.
Jay: Nice people... That's why it's hard for me to be around them. Because I'm the only one that's different....
FEELINGS AND PROBLEMS. The memory ends there.
WHAT HE LEARNS
+ Knew a bitty girl named Harriet who could not cook for shit.
+ God, I was friends with a bunch of dumbasses . . . .
+ More confirmation that he's got some kind of godawful backstory going on, although, let's be honest, he doesn't really need it at this point.
+ Wanted a family really badly.
+ . . . :'D
EFFECTS
Complicated. Up to this point, he's been roundly rejecting the parts of his canon self that hide things and are unable to be honest with his friends! But . . . he is starting to get it, I think. "They're all good people/I'm the only one who's different" is a thing he's been feeling for a while now, and while he is scared and sad and wants someone to talk to, he also doesn't want to subject people like Marine and Ash to "SO I GUESS I USED TO BE AN ASSASSIN AND WANTED TO KILL MYSELF?" They're nice, and they shouldn't have to deal with that shit, and . . . really, Swift doesn't know a whole lot of people he doesn't think of as "nice and need their delicate sensibilities protected."`
He will be a little more closed off in the short term. The long term is more difficult to predict, as he's been battered around by trauma and quest effects for an OOC week or so, and that's only likely to continue.
